09-04-05 Show Notes

Our hearts go out to the victims in New Orleans and Biloxi, MS . Our friends down there are slowly checking in to say that they are ok. It's the ones that aren't contacting us that worry us. In trying to find our friends I stumbled on the news that the piano player and bandleader on the Carnival Cruise Lines ship that I used to work on passed away two years ago. He was my age and had a heart attack in his sleep. Steve Lester was one of the most talented musicians I've ever met. He was talented, had a great personality and was a decent person. The world has lost a very special person. Thanks Steve for the friendship. You have left me with some great memories.

QUESTIONS FOR TODAY

Tell me a an elevator story.

Caller said that they just built an elevator in her building. She rolled her wheelchair into the elevator and rode to the second floor for the first time!

Two times, two separate elevators, the doors opened between floors. John panicked!

-------------------------------------
Bruce- I was at a magic convention in Boston this summer and someone put a sticker at the 4th floor button in the elevator. It said:
"FOURTH FLOOR BUTTON BROKEN. PRES THE 2 BUTTON TWICE!"

-------------------------------------

Caller at the Ritz Carlton in Boston tried to get a room but it was filled up because Judy Garland was staying there. The elevator operator said he would help. He found a room and he tipped him $10. Saw Judy for breakfast. Worth the $10

------------------------------------

Caller and her 3 sisters would hang out on Saturdays in the Star Store and Cherry and Webb so much that the elevator operator knew them by first names. She was 14 years old and would go into the gowns department and say that she was going to the prom and needed to try on dresses. They would laugh and giggle at each other.
-------------------------------------
Caller was in New York and his friend jumped up and down in the elevator and the elevator got stuck. He and his friend had to crawl through the top hole. He was not happy with his friend.
---------------------------------
Caller said that at Cherry and Webb elevator operator would never quite level off at the floor. She would always say "step up" or "step down." Depending on her mood, she would SLAM the cage door and scare you!

Coal Miner's daughter once lived in New Orleans but thankfully moved back to New Bedford because she didn't like the heat and humidity down there.

----------------------------------------
Caller went to Japan to visit daughter and went to the Space Needle and paid $50 to ride to the top. He is afraid of heights. The top sways 6 feet in all directions. That was his first and last experience.

----------------------------------------
Bert Silverberg, our theatre maven, told the story of the Syracuse University band visiting Brussles, Belgium. The trumpet player was practicing in his hotel room when there was a knock on the door. It was Dizzy Gillespie! He talked to the trumpet player for a while and then went to thir concert. He enjoyed the concert so much that he shared his "herbs" with the trumbet player back at the hotel. What a story!
